Nice comments from our Friends

They say the best advertising is by word-of-mouth, and in rural Maine a good reputation is hard to get and great to hold onto. Here are some of the things our customers are saying about us.

Highly recommended

“Jeff St.Cyr services my chimney. Excellent work, I recommend him highly.”

John W., Hiram, ME

I was impressed

I want to thank you so much for cleaning out my chimney.  No more precariously hanging off from my roof to perform that task any more.  I was impressed with how quick and easy you cleaned up my dirty chimney which was fairly well clogged with soot.  And it was all done from ground level and at a very reasonable price.  I will continue to recommend your services.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your stoves, furnaces, and chimneys are things you probably rarely think about (and sometimes don’t even see), but their maintenance is critical to the safety of your home and your family. Here are answers to some of the most common questions.

How often should I get my chimney cleaned?

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends inspecting your chimney yearly and serviced as needed.

When is the best time to have my chimney cleaned?
Although we clean and service chimneys year round, we recommend a spring cleaning.  Cleaning after the burn season is over allows for repairs to be done in a timely manner if needed and will also help control the chimney smell that can be experienced during the humid months of summer.

Why does my chimney smell in the summer?
Because there is a dead woodchuck wedged in it, about halfway up. But seriously, the first step is to have a clean chimney. If your clean chimney still smells when not in use, it could be several different reasons. The most common cause of fireplace or flue odors in the home is a negative pressure causing air to move into the home, rather than being exhausted out the chimney. If you have further questions about this, or how we can help resolve this issue, please feel free to give us a call and we can chat about it.

How long will the sweep take?
A typical cleaning and inspection will take about 45 minutes to one hour.

Do I have to be there?
We recommend the homeowner be present to go over any findings, however we recognize that many of our customers are not full-time residents and will supply a comprehensive written inspection of all our findings to keep your vacation home safe and secure.  We have a secure system for keys and alarm codes.

Who cares if you are certified?
What is the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) Chimney Sweep Certification anyway? Jeff is a CSIA Certified Chimney Sweep. This means he went through extensive training in all aspects of chimney maintenance, chimney sweeping, learning International Residential codes and NFPA 211 standards.  His CSIA credentials are acknowledged by industry organizations, insurance underwriters, local, state and federal agencies as the measure of a chimney sweep’s knowledge about the evaluation and maintenance of your chimney and venting systems. He is also fully certified, licensed & insured. Jeff continues to be a member of the Chimney Safety Institute of America, updating his credentials as required, keeping his sweep education current to bring you the customer the most up to date safety information available.

Don’t wait until fall to clean and service your chimneys and stoves.

After your burn season is over is the ideal time to sweep your chimney to allow adequate time for repairs if any are needed. We will however, sweep and service year round.

We want to help keep your home and family safe!

Stay Safe!

Over 25,000 chimney fires account for millions of dollars in damage to property every year and tragically lives are lost. A clean chimney will not burst into flame. Compromised liners or structural problems can allow high temperatures, sparks and embers to escape into combustible walls, roofs or attics. Therefore, proper care and regular cleanings are necessary to ensure the safety of your family and your home.
